Using Bulk Olive Oil
If you're newcomer to the exciting health benefits and the many culinary delights of applying olive oil, you are in for a fun filled and tasty journey. The uses for this oil are endless and its not just restricted to food. There are so many dishes you can use it with, and you have so much to gain in terms of your health. Replacing some of the unhealthy fats in your diet, such as animal fat, and butter for delicious olive oil is a great way to start on a healthier path.
Just the same as with regular vegetable oil, the ideal amount of olive oil to stock your kitchen with depends very much on your habits and how you plan to use the oil. It will also depend on what type of olive oil, and in particular the grade you will be using.
You will not want to waste your olive oil extravagantly as it is much more expensive than many of the other vegetable oils, so it's important that you should know how to best utilize it. I'll give you an example. The most expensive oilive oil is extra virgin olive oil and this should not be used to cook food at high temperatures. Extra virgin oil has a low smoke point and its special flavor is lost in the cooking process anyway. Therfore this grade of oil should be saved for use in fresh dishes, especially salads, or for dipping bread, and also to sprinkle or brush over cooked meat, fish and vegetables.
Bear in mind that in some frying situations, the olive oil flavor may not be complimental to the food choice. You might not relish the taste of french fries cooked in olive oil. But with certain meats and fishes, frying can be done just as well in olive oil. For this choose pure olive oil, or another type that is not virgin, as they have higher smoking points and cost considerably less. If you do a lot of frying, you should think of buying bulk olive oil.
Wholesale olive oil can be purchased by a few different ways. Either you can get a container, often a special tin, that holds a large volume of the liquid, or you buy a number of smaller bottles (such as in a case) and pay less. If you do plan to buy bulk olive oil, there are a few things you should take into consideration.
Think of what timescale you need it for and how much oil you will need. The flavor starts to dimish after 12 months so no point ordering 10 gallons unless you have a busy retaurant or a hungry family. Olive oils over 12 months old should only be used for cooking and not dripping over fresh food.
The smartest option for saving money on bulk olive oil, is to buy a slightly lesser quality (grade) of the oil {unless you use a lot of it on fresh produce} so that you can use it in all sorts of cooking applications. You will always have some on hand when you need it, and you won't have to worry about it going off as well.
So if you do buy bulk olive oil in a lesser grade, like pure" olive oil";, be sure to keep a good bottle of extra virgin on hand for fresh application too.
